August 29, 2009

Well Howdy all, hope that you have had a great week.  Mine has been pretty busy, although can't say I have gotten a lot accomplished here at the house.

On Saturday, I took Joyce to the Sanford Airport for her trip home.  We certainly are going to miss her bubblely personality around here.  When Judy and she are here it just brightens our day.   Anyway, she got out of the car and got her stuff out of the trunk and came back to the passenger side to say her final good bye and I lowered the window and guess what...the window just kept going down.  I had seen several cars lately with that particular window covered and wonder why they had not gotten it fixed.   After a speedy trip back to Merritt Island to my service place I found out why...$301.33 later my window worked.

Dad continues feeling fine and not wanting to take his medicine...there is only one he really doesn't want to take, it is liquid and he says it just to sweet.  But Lana Bless her heart is making sure that he takes it.

You know there should be a book out that is quick to pickup and read about dealing with elder parents.  I think most of us think that we are the only one going through it at the time but low and behold we are not.  A Dear Friend's Mom's house burnt last week.  It was a two story and the fire was in the 2nd story.  No way she could live there but she insisted she could.  What a battle for the family.  In fact she saw herself on TV and felt bad for that poor old woman that lost her house.  I believe she is 95.  Another friend was telling me that she and her sister broke up the day with her mother.  Everyday one would go in the morning and the other would come in the afternoon.  The other siblings would call their mother and asked if they had been there and she would say no, I haven't seen them in two weeks.   Lord help me not to be that way....but I believe it happens to all of us.
As most of you know I worked at the Press site this week. Both Bet and I are morning people so it caused so butt dragging for us.  The weather for the most part has not been cooperating just to give you and idea on the night of the first scheduled attempt this is what it looked like.

As always working at the Press Site I have some stories to tell you, that I think you will get a kick out of.  One of the Press guys was from Sweden, they (guard) caught him urinating on the wall of one of the buildings.  They asked him to stop, he didn't he continued on the parking lot.  They took his badge and escorted him off center.  Then he was quite concerned because he was going to lose his job because of it.  One of the calls that Bet took was from a man in TX who wanted to know how many meteors hit the ear everyday.  He was not satisfied to know that over 100,000 hit the ear atmosphere every year, he wanted to know daily....it took a lot of will power to finally give him a number in Houston that could tell him that info...he thought it should be common knowledge.  Then there was the older man (he said it) who is going blind but he has a lot of imagination and loves the space program especially the shuttle.  He would like to build a mock up shuttle and give it to school children for educational purposes.  Believe me it took a long time for him to say all that, and again he was shocked that we couldn't give him that info.  Oh we get some real zingers I tell you.  Then there was this call from a Harvard Grad working on his advanced degree...he had come up with a way to time travel and it was real simple children could do it.  In fact he had a friend that recently visited Space Station.  He wanted to share how to do that with NASA.

Dan had his check up for Melanoma and they found some lesions.  The Dr. said there was conflicting reports from the MRI and the Cat Scan and they would need to be done again.  I know that they are worried that it maybe coming back, Please keep them in your prayers.

Want to wish a very happy birthday to David Garthe today, as well as Garrett Morar who is 15.    Then on Monday Rik Michaud will celebrate his big day won't say how old he is but it is definitely a double digit number  Wishing you all the happiest birthday's ever!

After working all these hours for launch Bet and I have decided that we like retired life and although we get the twinge once in awhile to return to work that 2 will pass.

Launch last night was awesome!  Wish you all could have been there.  No issues and it was right on time.  But on my way home I saw lightning in the sky...(which of course would have scrubbed the launch if it had been 1/2 hour earlier).  Landing will be on the 10th of Sept.

Take good care of yourself and let me hear from you.

Lots of Love
