November 29, 2008

Dear Family and Friends

Good morning all hope you had a wonderful turkey day (or ribs) whatever is your food of choice for that wonderful day of Thanksgiving!  The weather here has been great, a little cool for some (Bill for sure) but I have enjoyed it.

When I arrived at Dad's last Saturday Lana and Shari were there it is always nice seeing them and we chatted for little a while before they had to leave.  Dad seems a little better sprinted when I was there on Sat.  For dinner we tried Applebea's again it had been six weeks since we have eaten there and Dad seemed to enjoy it.

Got to tell you about Church on Sunday morning...(my excuse) I am always at Church about 5:45 on Sunday morning to fix the drinks so I figure the Lord doesn't mind if I am a little late for services  I don't know how it is where you go to Church but I have found over the years the same people sit in the same place.  Well that wasn't the case on Sunday when I got there...no one was sitting in the usher seat and people that usually sit in the back row was in the front, people that sit in the front row was somewhere else...very confusing to me I tell you.  When it came time for the peace I said to the lady in the row in front of me I have no idea what is going on....no ushers, don't know if someone has been asked to take up the obligations and she smiled at me...she said that they had all decided to pull a trick on the Priest because he had mentioned he always knew where to look for them on Sunday....well there were ushers and everything went smoothly but I was in a confused state I will tell you.  Good idea though  we need to change our seats once in a while to get a different prospective.  Won't be going to Church tomorrow except to make the drinks.  I have to be into work at 7:30 for landing.

Made Dan a lemon pie for his birthday on Sunday...Joyce and I discussed the fact I was going to make it and she said she always had trouble with the meringue...Oh no problem with that I proclaimed...I knew I shouldn't bragged on that when it took me about 6 egg whites to finally get enough that didn't have the yolk in it.  Then it seemed to whip up good but once it cooked it looked pretty flat to me...The joy of cooking

From Sunday on I was going to the grocery store in hopes of not forgetting anything for the big day.  On Tuesday I thought that I had accomplished everything on the list but as I headed over the Barge Canal bridge I realized I had one more trip I had forgotten two important things.....whipping cream and celery.  I would love to had the take that the grocery store made on those three days of shopping even if it was just what I spent there

By Thanksgiving day I had made 8 double loaves of bread, two large pans of cinnamon rolls, 7 pumpkin pies, 5 chocolate pies, and banana nut bread.

I also made three apple pies and it is a mystery to me as to what happen to them.  First of all I had bought an apple peeler/slicer when sister Joyce had a Pamper Chief party and I was ready to use it.  It was great not only does it peal the apple it slices them....great stuff since I was making three pies.   They did not cook...don't know why everything else did...I cooked them for 60 minutes and the pie crust browned (a little too much) but the apples did not cook.   I even tried to cook them more but never got it to even bubble.  I was sick about that.  David suggested that it might be the apples.  Bill had lots of suggestions but from someone that doesn't cook I wasn't to happy with his suggestions  I am just curious has this ever happen to you?

For those of you that don't live up north and think it has been cold here...I got this, this week from my friend Letty in Maine.....

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Pat & Dave were here around 8 and that Dave is a miracle worker...(I think I have mentioned that before)  He jumped right in and started the day's feast I can't brag enough about them they certainly were a life savors for me...Although I love to have everyone here by the big day I am truly exhausted.  It was a wonderful day and I believe everyone enjoyed it.  Here are some pictures that Pat took.

If you would like to check the rest of them out click here to view them. I tried to pick a select few to put in here but for some reason it would not let me...

Sorry I am a little late getting this out but I could not get on line to start with and spend more time than I should trying to transfer those pictures.  The only thing that sadden me on Thanksgiving is the fact that Dad and Helen were alone on that special day set aside for everyone to be thankful for.  But I have to keep remembering that it is their choice.

It still has not been decided who will come next to visit Dad...Helen turn but she is having problems with her knee's so Judy may come in her stead.

Yesterday I was busy getting my house back in order.  With that many people here it was bound to get a little messed up but nothing major...cleaning lady comes on Monday.

Please take good care of you and keep in touch...thanks so much for your prayers...and I hope you have a wonderful week!

Lots of Love
