May 24, 2008

Good morning all what a week this has been for me…busy that is. The weather here has been warm, but Bill is still wearing his flannel shirt in 90 degree weather! Thank goodness I have my air conditioner in my bed room and that I am getting company so the air will be on in the house! The VA may say that he is in great health but something is wrong if you are wearing a flannel shirt at this temp and believe it or not he has a quilt on his bed with flannel sheets! Oh well enough of that love my visits to stores it is nice and cool there (smile)

It should be a real treat for Dad today nephew Rand and son Jacob will be visiting him. He will be in his glory when we go out to dinner! It is so great for him to have visitors but according to him they never stay long enough!

Every day I have been working in the yard finishing up it up so it will be done when the family arrives on the 28th. The last two things that I have to get done is plant my crown of thorns on Monday and put down more mulch! Don’t know if I told you about that but here I go repeating myself if I did. I decided to talk out the sweet potato vines that I had growing next to the garage and put something there with flowers. In my many trips to the nursery (mostly Home Depot) I decide that I would put down crown of thorns there, they have a pretty flower on them. But everywhere I looked for small plants the where $4 a piece and I needed 15 of them. Well it was suggested that I try to root them and at that cost I gave it a try. Would you believe they didn’t lose a flower (maybe a few leaves) but they all look great! So that will be done on Monday. The other thing I have decided is the front needs more mulch so today I am off to get more mulch.

On Monday I attended my Local Planning Agency meeting in Viera. The topic for discussion was parking recreational vehicles on property of ½ acre of less! That was a fun meeting neighbors told of vehicles that were parked across the lawn with flowers planted around them, as well as people staying them year around. It was the good, the bad, and the ugly! But the funnies part of it was we had the gentleman speak that has two recreational vehicles. The smallest one he uses to take his ill wife to the Doctor or what ever because she can not sit in a regular vehicle. The larger one he use for such things as if they have to evacuate because of fire or hurricanes. He parks these vehicles in the car port which he had built especially for them. Got to say we all were sympatric with him because he was not able to park them in his back yard etc. Then someone much smarter than I asked him how much property did he own. Remember we were considering ½ acre down…he owned 5 acres but was there to protest because as he said if the camel comes a knocking at your neighbor’s door…you will be next!

On Tuesday I attended the NASA Alumni meeting in Cocoa Beach. It was quite interesting they had the students there from area high schools that were part of the robotics team. They had their robot with them and it was amazing what it could do. This group came in 2nd in the nation.

Then that night I attended a FEW meeting, they are getting ready to go to the national conference and wanted me to go. But it is in the middle of July and I have enough trips planed for the year. They are also planning a retreat in June, hopefully I will be able to go to that!

Wednesday I worked at the NASA Press site for three hours. I mostly just answered phones. She has asked both Bet and I to work on the 27th but Bet had a Dr. Appointment when she turned her down but since then she has learned her brother in law has passed away she will be leaving for OK on Wed. and I will be getting ready for my family arrival. Bet and I are thinking they use us as fill in because we don’t get paid. Don’t really mind for the most part but I think they can take advantage of a good thing!

Yesterday was Baxley Manor Day and when we got there the cupboard was bare! We learned from the lady that is in charge that someone was entering the cupboard and taking things. Well there are two ways to look at that if someone is so desperate that they are stealing food and necessity items they must need them but the other way is other people that need them are not getting them. We talked to one of the volunteers and he said he would go right away to Wal-mart and get a new lock for the door, sure hope it works!

We have a special Birthday this week, in fact it is so special it falls on a National Holiday! Wishing you the very best of birthday’s Greg!

I told you that we were getting a new garage door and it was suppose to be installed yesterday! Guess what? They need a part and it won’t be in for a week! I am giving them a hard time about it don’t know if it will hurry it up any.

Well the time is soon approaching for Todd’s graduation from High School and most of the family will be here, we are sure going to miss sister Helen but she will be on our minds. I am excited about the other sisters and their families coming always enjoy it!

There most likely will not be a just chatting next week it will be my busy party day! Hope all is well with you and that you have a wonderful week, have a great Memorial Day, Please remember take good care of you!

Lots of Love
