Nancy and I left here on her birthday and headed for Judy’s in NJ. It really was and uneventful trip, except when we tried to find a hotel in Petersburg, VA. We really had driven to long but we were determined to make to VA in the first day. We could see the hotel, but for the life of us it took the both of us to figure how to get there, have you ever had that happen to you? But after an hour (one time I headed down a one way street going the wrong way) we finally found it.
We had driven 12 hours and I was dead tired. Several of her friends called to wish her happy birthday earlier but one of her friends called we were both asleep to wish her Happy Birthday. Nancy told her she was a day late and she said no it was still the 13th and Nancy could not believe it, it had to be the 14th but I looked at the clock and it was 11:30 and I said to her it is still your birthday. It was funny but I guess you had to be there.
On the 14th we met up with Sister Lana and Sherrie at Judy’s. The weather was great! One of the first things we did was to cut some rhubarb! Gosh it was good, years ago Judy got some stock from my Grandmothers or Mom garden and it is so good! I really didn’t do much there but rest up sitting on the porch. Lana left on Sunday and Nancy and I took off for Manchester on Monday.
This is the part of the trip that makes me the most nervous, because you can take the wrong turn and end up in NY City. Believe me I know I have done it. I fooled with my GPS trying to make it go the way I wanted it too go and finally was successful by saying I wanted to go to my Uncle’s old address in S. Windsor, CT. I had all kinds of maps and my friend Mike did one special for me but you can’t be looking at a map when you are driving in four to six lanes of traffic. (More stories on the GPS will follow) We arrived at my niece Liz’s house in mid afternoon and it was about 78 nice breezes.
I was so comfortable I took a nap on the lounge on the deck. It was great! Liz is always a great hostess and of course you can’t beat the food served at her house!
The next day I headed for Maine and my sister Joyce’s and Jeff house in Calais. The sun was shinning and it was about 70 degree’s in Maine. The whole time I was in Maine it was just beautiful (of course you knew that) but even when it rained it was so comfortable I didn’t want to leave. Joyce and I went shopping and I bought myself a coat. Don’t know when I will wear it but I really liked it and could not beat the price.
I am not a shopper so it was a shock to me also. I had a day at Joyce’s all by myself very relaxing. Then on Thursday we headed for the “County” were we met up with all the “gang”. Lana bought Diana, Krista and Torey with her from Helen’s.
It wasn’t long after our arrival that Joyce and I had to get ready to go to my class reunion. I guess I am getting old I didn’t really remember that the roads were so winding. I said to Joyce how did we ever drive as fast as I know we did on these roads? The reunion was great! I believe there were 25 and guest that attended.

But I explain to him that there were five of us showing my hand and picking out the middle finger as her….think he got the message.
The next day we met up with Cousin Blair in Canada and headed for my grandparents cemetery.

That night the rest of the gang arrived and it was wonderful to have all my sisters together! We laughed and had a great time.
The next day we went to the remaining cemeteries we had been to Clyde’s the day before but Clyde’s Mom and Dad’s stone was so mildewed that we got some house hold cleaner and a brush and went back to clean the stones. Clyde’s stone was perfect but I noticed that all the granet stones had to be cleaned. Thank goodness for the GPS I finally found out the name of the roads to get there.
I just know my way but no one in my family can find it. So now I know the names of the roads! Then we headed for the Fort Fairfield Potato blossom festival! It was great having all the sisters together, we had a great time. My little hometown was packed with cars and people for this big event.

If that wasn’t enough we had to get our pictures taken in front of the sign Welcome to Fort Fairfield…..

Off to Calais we went and of course a big lobster feed was enjoyed by all. We made sure that Torey ate well but of course Krista ate healthy! Had a great weekend at Joyce and Jeff’s always hate to leave there I feel like I am leaving home. We spent Monday night with Helen and on Tuesday we headed for LL Bean. As most of you know I am not a shopper but I think I did very well waiting for everyone and believe me they bought part of LL Bean home to Florida. After LL Bean we headed for the Manchester, NH airport where Krista and Torey flew home and it just left Diana and me in the car.
That is when we started to have great fun with the GPS….I got turned around when I left the airport can’t began to tell you the fun that we had…it wanted to send us down this road that was closed and it kept taking us around in circles. We finally got on the right road and you tell me about scenic it was scenic but it took us there and that is all that mattered since we were only going to Ware, MA to visit David and Johanna…..I know it took us a lot longer than it should have I will tell you that.
We had a great visit with them and really enjoyed it. Off we started on Friday for our trip home, more fun with the GPS….It didn’t matter if I put the shortest route or the fastest it was determined to take me off the interstate. At one point I gave in and it took us through Sleepy Hollow, nice little town but it sure wasn’t on my list of things I wanted to do.
Diana wanted to stop at Hershey, PA, she passed us the chance to see the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown (can you believe that?) We had a great time in Hershey; we went to the Chocolate Factory and the Museum…plus we managed to stop at and outlet mall. Saturday we headed for home, lots of traffic on the road and rain slowed us down a lot plus two bad accidents but we arrived safely home Saturday evening about 10.
I am sure I left out a lot of important things that happened on the trip but I know a good time was had by all. It was so great to be able to spend time with my sisters.
Lots of Love
