May 29, 2010

Good morning all, hope that you have had a great week.  I have been out in my yard just about everyday and it is really starting to look up!  I over did on my roses and gave them too much ortho and it shocked them but they are coming back thank goodness.  I am still having problems with nut grass, let me tell you it is terrible stuff.  I think the roots go to China, and you can never pull it all up so I am either drowning it with the stuff I got at home depot or some of it is really turning yellow...soon to die I hope.

Hope you all will have a great Memorial Day weekend but please remember the reason for the Holiday.

Had a nice visit with Dad last Saturday, we had dinner at the Olive Garden.  I am sure I have told you why he really likes the Olive Garden...they give you a pot of coffee so you don't have to wait for a refill and the other was for the roller chairs.  Well I think we are going down hill because they have replaced all the roller chairs with non roller ones.  He isn't to happy about that but he still says that Olive Garden is a family place.

On Monday I met my friend Karen for lunch and all though we tried to solve the worlds problems....it doesn't look like we did so we will have to meet again soon and try again.

I was all excited Todd had called me to asked if I had some jobs for him.  I quickly decided I did so we arranged for him to come out on Tuesday.  I have this old swing set that Bill made years ago that is no longer a swing set.  It is just the frame, I have plants hanging on it as well as my bird feeders.  I have wanted it painted for a long time...so off to Home Depot I went and got the paint and I was ready for him on Tuesday.  We have needed rain for so long....yes you got it!  He had the paint all mixed and was ready to paint when it began to pour....hard and it showed no sign of stopping right away.  So he promised to come back the next morning and get it done.   In the mean time he called his old place of employee and asked them if they had a job for him....oh yes they wanted him back so on Wednesday instead of painting my frame he went to work!   So that is the good news and the bad news all at once.

My friend Karen stopped by after riding her horse to tell me about my orchid.  Hopefully I won't kill it soon, she promised after it stopped blooming she would repot it for me and then I will go from there.  The other thing I found out from her is the stuff I have been calling a fern for years is really a cardboard palm!  So you learn a little every day

On Wednesday I went into work at 6 am to help with the landing of Atlantis final return to KSC.  All went very smoothly and what a beautiful landing!  As you all know a couple of minutes before landing there is a boom boom when it breaks the sound barrier.  Dad had fallen asleep in his chair when it happened and it woke him up he thought someone was knocking at his door so got up to answer it when he realized what had happened.  Friend Karen was riding her horse Bo at the time and he didn't like it a bit and tried to throw her off.  The landing made me feel very sad, we only have two more to go.

I told you about my new device to take my own coumidin count, which I thought was going to be a breeze.  On Thursday morning I got myself prepared to do so.  Well let me tell you I had no problem pricking my finger for the blood but to get that blood on that little part of the strip was another thing.  I went thru 8 strips when I finally gave up and called the nurse and told her I was ready for lesson #2.  It seems I had pricked the inside of my finger I had never noticed that they do the outside of the finger....When I went in the first time I did it right but since I had such a hard time at home I have to do it again next Thursday.  Believe me I am set on doing it right the first time.

Yesterday I took Diana to the dermatologists  where she had a cyst the size of a fifty cent piece or bigger cut out.  It was on her back in a bad place so it looks like she will have a few days off from work to recuperate.

Judy and Greg are off to Porto Rico this weekend for a week.  So glad for them we all need to get away for awhile.

Pat & David had a wonderful time on their vacation.  I think Pat took over a thousand () pictures.  Just joking they were beautiful pictures.

Well I finally got my package off to Paul in Iraq, the main reason I was so long in sending it I was looking for the right box to put it in.  Stacey had told me about the APO boxes at the Post Office but I didn't want to take the time to stop and get it.  Well, believe me I learned my lesson the hard way.  You see it cost me $20 to send my goodies where if I had used the APO box it would have been a flat rate.  I hope he really enjoys those goodies, I will really be disappointed if he don't.

Well I guess that's it for my rambling this week, hope you have a wonderful weekend and remember please take good care of you!
